The project is located in the Louga region of Northwestern Senegal, in the village of Thiarène Sarr. This rural village, along with its surrounding communities, has a population of over 2 000 habitants. This Sahelian territory faces major challenges: persistent rural poverty, food insecurity and limited access to drinking water, education and healthcare. The long distances to travel to access these services, combined with limited economic resources, hinder local development and exacerbate inequalities, particularly for women and girls. Despite these realities, Thiarène Sarr has strong potential for community mobilization and land resources conductive of sustainable initiatives. It is in this context that Gouttes d’Espoir Afrique wants to intervene by supporting structural actions that improve living conditions, empower women, promote girls’ education, and creates an environment conductive to the development of local educational and healthcare infrastructure.
